An Introduction to Custom Blocks (Or “how does I make interviews appear?”)

In our attempt to make the site seem as cold and corporate as possible, sometimes you’ll want to represent an unusual message or file that otherwise may not be easy to represent: Interviews, for example, have a tendency to disappear among the monospace lines of Roboto Mono that dot the registry.

But fear not! With the magic of some plugins, (and a little bit of spontaneous learning in the realm of PHP,) we now have a way to represent things that otherwise might go unrepresented!

In the widgets section of the editor, you can find the wonderful new block known as “The Heroes Incorporated Files.” This little guy allows you to make one of the boxes below. Check them out for information on what each color is for.

Recorded Document
This color is used for recorded documents, such as interviews, incident reports and meeting minutes.
Messages (1)
This color should only be used for e-messages and inter-personal memos. Emails, notes left by one individual for another, etc. Calling the header something like “Messages (1)” makes it look pretty realistic.
IT Note
Blue is used for department-specific notes: If IT makes a notable change, HR has a policy update announcement or the cafeteria is calling off its clam bake due to food poisoning, use this. Basically, if it needs to be known to all authorized users, it is this.
Warning
Lightish red is used to indicate a very important message, usually as a header for a hero’s registry entry to warn of dangers or situations to avoid.
Screw You Ha Ha
If an outside source decides to leave a little manifesto for anyone who looks at a page, it appears in this color. As a side note, it’s probably wise to switch the text color to white for this one.
Else (this)
Any type of message that might not have an assigned color can use just plain old (dark) white while retaining its effect.
