Full Name: Blair
Alias/Other Names: Soulbraid
Powers: Soul lock, soul merge.
Hero Class: Alpha
Physical Attributes: Blair’s proper physical form is difficult to pin down thanks to their ability to switch souls between host bodies. (See power analysis). Their soul form takes the shape of a simple sphere of blue fire that is ice cold to the touch. It hovers about four feet from the ground.
Power Analysis: Blair’s primary ability, soul lock, allows them to bind their soul to an empty vessel capable of containing it. Such vessels include newly-deceased bodies, android (or gynoid) armatures, and even vehicles to some degree: The only other requirement needs to be that a sentient being at one point held the vessel dear to them emotionally.
While in this form, Blair adopts the functionality of the vessel as their own, essentially allowing it to become their body. While there is a brief transition period, this allows them to use any limbs, vocalizations and such movements as if they were born into them. If the vessel has (or at one point had) eyes, ears or other sensory features, Blair is capable of seeing through them, although if those features aren’t there anymore then Blair will have to function without them. If the base five Human senses aren’t present by default, such as the sense of touch on a robot or eyes on a vehicle, Blair gains these senses through some unknown method. However, unless something such as a speaker or text chat window is directly attached, they are unable to communicate outwardly in a traditional sense.
If bound to a deceased body, that body continues to be deceased while Blair is in control, and is undead. Additionally, Blair gains the memories of any (formerly) living host they inhabit, but not the personality or identity.
Blair’s soul is unable to leave a host body unless that body first dies. While this death doesn’t necessarily need to be literal, it usually needs to involve significant destruction to the current form. Upon this event taking place, Blair is ejected from the host body.
Blair’s secondary power allows them to merge their soul with another, fusing the personality and identity of the target into Blair’s. It is currently unknown how many souls Blair has assimilated, but they have suggested that it is in the thousands.
Notable Weaknesses: Blair takes on any weaknesses that their current form possesses: Humanoids can be stabbed, shot, bludgeoned, retrained, burned and so on as usual. Likewise, mechanical bodies are typically weak to electric attacks and undead bodies are turned by holy abilities and those that repel undead.
Blair’s soul is not immune to metaphysical abilities, and holy abilities will harm them. Likewise, some specialized psychic powers and powers that explicitly affect spirits or ghosts will affect Blair as well. With no way to defend or attack, Blair is mostly useless without a form.
Origin: Blair was, reportedly, a psychic medium obsessed with the world of spirits and the deceased. While they can’t remember their life before their current form, they were reportedly murdered in cold blood by their partner in the 1690s (supposedly during the Salem Witch Trials). Upon their death, they wandered the Earth, confused and alone, before they accidentally assimilated an individual and discovered their abilities. They them proceded to explore the world over the span of hundreds of years, donning countless faces and forms, before drawing the attention of the Heroes For Hire program.
Psychological Analysis: Blair is a unique individual from an occult standpoint in that, unlike a lot of other spirits, they aren’t preoccupied with revenge. While that, by itself, is just plain good luck for us, the fact that they are made up of thousands of souls means that they tend to be a little unpredictable. That said, their unique abilities can be put to good use by the program.
